Mentally Interrupted Records is an independent Australian music label and part of the wider Mentally Interrupted group, bringing together music, media, creativity and mental health advocacy.
Built on the belief that music can be more than entertainment, Mentally Interrupted Records exists to provide a home for artists, producers, remixers and creators who want their music to have personality, meaning and independence.
The label embraces music that is different, nostalgic, experimental and sometimes unexpected. From electronic dance music and original productions to remixes, reinterpretations and releases influenced by music from previous generations, Mentally Interrupted Records is about giving artists room to create without feeling that they have to fit into a conventional commercial formula.
Music With a Purpose
Mentally Interrupted Records shares the broader philosophy of the Mentally Interrupted group: challenging stigma, encouraging understanding and giving people a voice.
Mental health awareness is an important part of our identity, but it does not define every song we release. Instead, it influences the environment we want to create—one where artists can be open about their experiences, creativity can become an outlet, and people are respected for who they are.
We believe music can help people communicate things that are sometimes difficult to put into words. It can connect memories, generations and communities, while giving both artists and listeners somewhere to belong.
Independent by Nature
We are proudly independent.
Mentally Interrupted Records supports creative freedom and believes artists should have a meaningful voice in how their music is produced, presented, promoted and released.
Our catalogue can include:
-
Original electronic and dance music
-
Remixes and reinterpretations
-
Retro-inspired productions
-
Independent Australian music
-
Collaborations with Australian and international artists
-
Experimental and crossover projects
-
Music connected with mental health awareness and lived experience
The label is also home to projects from DJ M.I.P., a retro remixer, electronic music producer and mental health advocate whose work combines influences from different periods of music with modern production.
Part of the Mentally Interrupted Group
Mentally Interrupted Records forms part of a growing collection of independent Mentally Interrupted media and community projects.
The wider group uses broadcasting, video, social media, music and other forms of creative media to encourage conversations about mental health and provide platforms for voices and ideas that may not always be represented by mainstream media.
This connects Mentally Interrupted Records with the philosophy behind the Mentally Interrupted Community Network, an Australian online radio and television platform focused on mental health awareness, lived experience, recovery, resilience and community storytelling.
For us, the record label is another way of telling those stories.
Sometimes the story is spoken.
Sometimes it is broadcast.
Sometimes it is music.
Our Direction
Mentally Interrupted Records wants to build a catalogue that reflects creativity rather than trends.
We want to work with independent artists who have something distinctive to offer, encourage collaborations across genres and countries, and provide another pathway for music that deserves to be heard.
We are not trying to become another conventional record company.
We are building something that reflects the Mentally Interrupted philosophy:
Independent music. Independent voices. Real experiences. No stigma.
